Ledbetter's IRELAND UPDATE
Vol IX, No. 3
August 1999
Hello again from Ireland! I pray this letter finds you all well, and serving our worthy Lord with all your heart and strength! In this "technology age," you would think that we humans would be so much more efficient with all the gadgetry and whiz-bang stuff – yet there is always so little time or space to tell you all the things God has us doing in the white field of Irish souls! But I am glad to be able to bring you up-to-date on events in our neck of the woods. And let me say that my family and I are so very grateful for all the letters and cards that many of you send, letting us know you pray for us, and care about our labours here!
Bible Clubs Galore! (See photos on back) We conducted three separated week-long Vacation Bible Schools in various locations with tremendous results! There were 28 kids the first week, then 27 different kids the next, and 36 the final week! Whew! You can never get used to seeing kids soak up the truths of the word of God! Our theme was Learning to Follow Jesus, and what a blessing to watch the children wholeheartedly agree that only Jesus deserves all our love! I am very busy doing call-back visitation to all the new homes – pray that both the kids and their parents get saved through all this! I hope by my next newsletter to let you know of great results in these homes!
Church Anniversaries and Friend Days! In June, both Blarney and Mallow churches celebrated their anniversaries! The Irish believers here are very aware of the miracles represented with all the souls saved, and the people’s lives changed by the Gospel! Friend Day saw the gathering together of 56 souls to hear the Gospel in Blarney, with 16 first time visitors! Things are still slow in Mallow, but they persevere, and will bear fruit soon enough (Galatians 6:9)! Through it all, a lady named Francis Burton got saved, and her fiancé got right with God! I will be marrying them this month for the glory of God! Amen!
Kosovo Blitz! We had a taste of trying to witness to the 100 Kosovan refugees that are temporarily staying in a village near by. I quickly discovered just how hard it was to communicate with them. So I ordered various Gospel tracts and New Testaments in their own language! With the wonderful help of the Fellowship Tract League, the Trinitarian Bible Society and Couriers for Christ we placed a packet of Kosovan tracts and New Testaments into dozens of their homes. The opportunity to give Kosovan people the Gospel might never again happen for us, so we are excited what the Lord will do with our efforts! Pray that many of the Muslim hearts will realize Jesus died for their sins too!
Prayer List:
v We are negotiating with the local planning councils for church land of our own! We have been saving towards this for many years, but we need a lot of miracles. And so we trust our Great Provider, and ask for your prayers!
v These people need to get saved: Mary Sommers, Richard Keating, Peter Synott, Robert and Ann Bruton, Mary Tighe, Honour Heffernan, Isabella Lynch, and Jeff Monaghan.
v
Pray for these to
grow strong: Marlene Layton (she is really growing now thanks to
your prayers), Jenna Monaghan, Emmet Lynch (having his ups
and downs), Kevin Butler, Ken Manley, Pat Tighe, Dennis Linehen,
and John O’Mahoney.
v Pray for the wedding of David Shilling and Francis Burton this month - that God would honour His word preached at their wedding here in Ireland - it is not often that these Irish get to see Christians getting married!
v Finally, continue to pray the Lord would send some fellow-labourers here – I’m convinced we need more Missionary labourers – the harvest is great! Could you be the one, who would come and help? The folks in Mallow need so much more attention than I can give them!
