We travelled a long way from Cork, to
London, to Los Angeles to Fresno! |
|
We all woke up at 4am and Dan and Kathy came at 4:55am to take us to the Cork airport. We were not out of the house until 5:20, and then had to head back and get Nita’s purse. Oh well. We lost about 4 minutes, but were okay. It was great seeing light in the east that early. I know I will miss the early mornings and late night light in Ireland, but hopefully come September, there will still be some leftover summer light. When we got to the airport, Joshua’s ticket was not correct, but Aer Lingus corrected it and then we took some pictures and said good bye to Dan and Kathy. The first flight was from Cork to London Heathrow was full. When we got to London, we didn’t have enough time to get our money exchanged so we will have to get it done in Los Angeles. We were boarding in the new section of Terminal One in London. It was dead! The plane also was not packed, and actually was very comfortable to fly. As I am writing this, we are over Northern Canada, and still have about 5 hours to go before we land. The flight is very smooth. I am very impressed with the weather. Below is just a frozen wasteland as we fly over Canada. As I write this it is 5:40pm, with less than 3 hours left until LAX. We landed in LAX an hour early, and were passing by the baggage belt and by accident, noticed our bags going around the belt!!! We were told that our bags were checked in all the way to Fresno, and so we didn’t think that we might have to re-check in our bags. Well, we found out otherwise. All we had to do was take the bags to a special “transfer” belt and we were on our way. Then we stopped at a currency exchange and they tried to give us an exchange rate of only $1.14 instead of 1.30. I was flabbergasted! I told her to give our money back! We were not going to allow ourselves to be robbed! In Los Angeles though, the weather is fantastic – we can’t wait to get out into it! We have just a two hour lay-over here in LAX before we board for Fresno. It is 10:41pm Irish time so far which is 2:41pm in the afternoon here in California, and I am tired. We were delayed in Los Angeles for an hour waiting for the plane from Fresno to arrive. It is the longest wait when you are at the end of a trip. It started getting cool, so we were not sure what to expect for the weather in Fresno. When we boarded the plane, it Was a tiny two prop plane, and Nita and the kids loved how small it was. The stewardess was very good and funny. When we landed an hour and a quarter later, we stepped off into some wonderful heat! It felt sooooo good. Fresno is a small airport so we just went right through and on our way to get our bags we met up with Sharon and Luke! So wonderful! We followed Luke to their home, and had a wonderful time getting situated and went to bed at 10.30pm! |

Sunday Apr 22 4:44am Fresno, CA |
Selah Grace Miller was born!!! Check out our Grand-Parent Photos of us with Selah and Noah! |
Photos |
At 2:15 or thereabouts Sharon knocked to tell us she was in labour, and we were off to the Hospital! Nita went with them in the Rental Car while I would follow in a little while in Luke’s Dad’s truck. Nita texted me to tell me that the baby was born and was beautiful! I went down at 5am with Sarah, and left Joshua sleeping (I did wake him up just to tell him he had a new baby niece)! When we got there, Sharon was still very emotional but delighted and we got so many great pictures! They decided on the name Selah Grace, and she really IS beautiful! |

Sunday Apr 22 10 & 11 AM Fresno, CA |
|
|
In the morning I showed my DVD and gave my testimony at Faith Baptist Church, Fresno, and then answered questions. The people were great. I then preached the main message about the Cost of a Soul. After church, pastor Miller took us and John and Ruth out to eat at a place called Sweet Tomato and it was awesome. |
||
Sunday Apr 22 6:15PM Tollhouse, CA |
|
|
Joshua and I headed out to our next church about 45 minutes away, called Sierra Hills Baptist Church. We met Bro AJ Billings and his Youth pastor and were so blessed! Bro Billings took us to an authentic Mexican Restaurant before church and had great fellowship! Then, I showed my DVD, gave my testimony and then preached on the Missionary’s Wish. It went very well. Bro Billings graduated from West Coast and is a go-getter, but I can tell he is tired. Joshua really loved the church and was encouraged himself. We left the church at 8pm and got to the hospital so we can just pop in and see the baby – Joshua had not seen Selah yet. We made it in time and then headed home. I am so glad I have a GPS! I am sooooo wrecked tired! It was too long a day! |

What a day! A whirlwind of activity. For breakfast, I met with my son Joel. At lunch, I met with Nico and Joy to talk about wedding plans. It went well. The wedding of John and Ruth went very well. I was very nervous for some reason. Walking Ruth down the aisle was awesome! The wedding was beautiful! Very proud of John and Ruth! It was awesome having my brother Bill there taking the photographs! |

Apr 29 All Day Sacramento, CA |
Joshua and I drove up early on Sunday morning to be in this great church all day! Pastor Armer was so gracious, and we had a great time of fellowship! |
|
I woke up at 4.30am, and Nita woke up too to help iron and get clothes ready. Joshua could not find his other good shoe, and at 6am, he rang Noel and Barry and found out he left it at their hotel. I decided we would try and go by the hotel on the way to Sacramento. We got on the highway at 6:20am and arrived at the church at 9:30am! Whew! Preached during the morning Sunday School on Why I Do What I Do, and Love It. It went very well. I followed that in the morning message time with Responsible Christianity. It also did very well, with many people coming forward to the front at the invitation. Pastor Armer took Joshua and I out to lunch at a Mexican restaurant with his family, and with the Winkermans. What a blessed time of fellowship! |

May 2 7PM Oakdale, CA |
A church-planting pastor in a small town, reaching souls and building a Bible believing church - just two years old, and they have about 120 people already! Praise God! We had a blessed meeting! |
|
Drove my family up to Oakdale to a small new church named Lighthouse Baptist Church, pastor David Azzarello. He and his wife met us for dinner at a restaurant named Ryderz. It was a great time of fellowship. He used to be on staff at Pastor Jack Treiber’s church and then took a step of faith to start this church. He runs about 120 on a Sunday morning now! He had about 30-35 tonight. I had great liberty, but struggled at the beginning. I showed the wrong version of my DVD presentation but it well anyway. I preached on The Missionary’s Wish. Many many came to the altar at the invitation. We drove back and got home in Clovis around 11:20pm. Noah did well during the trip. We found out that Ruth’s car broke down last night on the road to San Diego. Timing belt and fuel pump needed replaced and the cost is expected to be about $1200 so they junked it and got a rental car. They still have a week to go before they leave to go back to Ireland. I hope to phone them tomorrow just to see how they are doing. |

May 5 Lancaster and Moreno Valley, CA |
We are travelling down to Lancaster to get Joshua a Summer Job, and then on to Moreno Valley in preparation for preaching all day tomorrow! It is a lovely drive, but amazing to see the lush green of Fresno turn to desert as we drove south to Lancaster. | Photos |
May 6 8:45am Moreno Valley, CA |
Preaching all day for Pastor Preston! he has such a heart for people, and especially for God's servants! |
|
We were up at 5:45am to shower and get dressed so we could eat breakfast at 7am. We needed to be at Lighthouse Baptist Church, Moreno Valley by 8:15am. Preached the 8:45am, then Taught at 10am, and Preached again at 11am Pastor Donny Wilson and his wife took my family and I to lunch at the Round table Pizza restaurant. Went back to the Best Western Hotel where I tried to take a nap but there were a dozen interruptions Took a small bit of rest but got no nap due to a bunch of interruptions. At the 6pm meeting, I showed the DVD and then answered questions. John and Ruth showed up and it was a great blessing to see them and everyone in the church was glad to see Ruth and her new husband! |

We arrived at West Coast at 8:20am and almost could not find any seating! The crowd was full. There were about 144 graduates, and the whole graduation went so well! Ruth was honoured in Who’s Who. Nico did great as well. I was able to get some great pictures of both and video both of them crossing the stage and receiving their diploma. We then went to Panera Bread with John and Ruth. |

Wednesday May 9 7PM Fresno, CA |
Visiting Faith Baptist Church, Fresno, CA |
Photos |
Headed north from Lancaster to Fresno for the wedding rehearsal. We arrived at 5:3opm but Nico said he and the guys were still in Lancaster with a lot of problems. Amanda and Venus arrived at about 8:30pm, and Nico arrived after 9:15. We finally got to rehearse at 11:30pm. I believe the wedding will go well in spite of all the hold ups and obstacles! |
||
Thursday May 10 Fresno, CA |
|

The wedding was supposed to start at 6pm, but there were a few delays, so it actually started about 6:20pm. It went very well! Joy’s Mom and Amanda worked so hard to make the church and reception hall so beautiful! Got home again very late because we were helping take stuff down and clean the church and reception hall after the wedding. Noah was very tired and cranky. |
||
Saturday May 12 |
Flying up to Seattle I arrived this morning, and Seattle it is beautiful! Flying in, you can see the chain of mountains that include Mt Rainier and Mt. St. Helens! The grass here is almost as green as in Ireland (it rains here almost as much as in Ireland too)! |

Met Jehovah’s Witness at Starbucks before church. Didn’t get anywhere witnessing to him. Only a JW for 2 years but very proud. Got to church at 8:30am. Church was full – great spirit Taught Adult Sunday School – What is a Soul Worth to You? Preached on Naomi in the main meeting since it is Mother's Day here. Great responses at the altar. Five people were baptized afterward Went to lunch with Pastor and Ginny Bailey at a place called Anthony’s on the Sound. What a blessing to be at this church, and to get a brief bit of fellowship with this faithful man of God and his church! |
||
Sunday May 13 Lynwood, WA |
Open Door Baptist Church |
Photos |
Drove up to Lynnword, WA, through loads of bumper to bumper traffic. Arrived right at 5:30pm. Almost fell asleep on the road. Had no time to stop and get a coffee! When I arrived, the church building was beautiful. About 70 people were there – usually about 300 on Sunday morning, but because of it being Mother’s Day he figured it would be low. Afterwards got to go for something to eat at Ruby Tuesday's. Great time of fellowship. What a great church with a great burden and vision for Seattle! |
||
